Aftermarket Car Parts – What Are They?
Aftermarket car parts are simply parts that have been made by a company other than the original manufacturer of the car. More often than not, aftermarket car parts are cheaper than OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts, but a cheaper priced car part does not always mean inferior as some may feel or believe.
In fact, aftermarket car parts are often of higher quality than the original OEM parts as many companies making aftermarket car parts specialize in a particular field. DONZ wheels, for instance, have been successfully manufacturing high performance alloy wheels for a number of years. These are of much higher quality than the standard set of wheels that come with a new car and give the car a unique and expensive look as well improving performance.
Companies that manufacture aftermarket car parts design them to perform as well as the original parts and in many cases will be superior in quality. As mentioned, this is largely due to the fact that these companies specialize in their fields. The stereos that come with cars as standard are generally basic in their functionality. A company who specializes in making car stereos may have a lot of additional features such as different equalizer settings, the ability to playback different formats such as mp3, wma, etc, so therefore these parts will generally have more features and be of much higher quality.
Due to the high demand for customization of parts, many individuals will use aftermarket car parts for aesthetic values, performance reasons, and safety enhancements. Many people want their cars to be unique and stand out from the crowd and will purchase aftermarket parts for cosmetic purposes. However, true car enthusiasts may spend thousands upgrading their vehicles with performance upgrades like turbo kits, air intakes and alloy wheels. Another reason many people purchase aftermarket parts are for security reasons like alarms or xenon lighting for improved visibility. Read the rest of this entry »

Buying Car Parts Or Spares From a Breakers-Yard?
One of the biggest costs associated with running a car is the costs of car parts and the labour charges that car owners have to pay when repairing their broken vehicles. The cost of the car part can be anything from five pounds for a bulb, to two-thousand pounds for an engine. Many car owners these days are wising up to the car parts industry and are altering their shopping patterns and looking at ways of reducing the money they have to spend on car spares but without losing the quality of the parts. Hundreds and thousands of car owners across the UK have become very wise to the fact that they are being ripped off from main dealers on not only the price they are paying for replacement parts but also the cost of labour for fitting these parts. Since the internet revolution, many car owners are now finding alternative methods of buying the part they need online, especially being attracted by getting their parts from breaker-yards and scrap yards across the UK. By using these sources to get their parts, they have not only saved £100′s on their parts but are also helping the environment as they are re-using genuine, quality parts that otherwise would have been discarded.
What car parts can you get from the Breakers-yard?
Breaker-yards stock a whole variety of car parts and spares, anything from wiper arms, alternators, wing mirrors and complete engines. Breaker-yards operate by collecting cars that have been involved in light minor accidents, cars that have been vandalised, or cars that have been recovered after being stolen. The breaker-yard then retrieves the cars, assess the damage to the car and take any parts off the car that can be used again and that are still in good condition. Due to most breaker-yards turning over 100′s of different makes and models of cars each week, the parts you can get from breakers are so varied that you could almost get any part you are looking for. Various Options For Car Parts
There is much debate and controversy on which auto parts are ideal for servicing and repairing cars. Ideally, there are three types of car parts. New OEM parts are manufactured by the original car manufacturer or a authorized designate of the car manufacturer. Used OEMs are second hand car parts removed mainly from written off cars. The aftermarkets are auto parts manufactured by a manufacture not authorized by the car manufacture. There are many arguments for and against the different types of car parts. This article endeavors to highlight on the various arguments posed for these different types.
New OEM Parts
For many years, new OEM parts were the only options for servicing and repairing cars. Today, there are still many car parts such as Brake Rotors and Brake Pads that wear fast and are cheap to purchase and it only makes sense to purchase the new auto parts. However, for the more expensive ones, you can check out the options. New manufacturer parts are either manufactured at the car manufacturing plant or outsourced to off-shore metal fabrication companies especially in far east countries like China. They are made with a certain level of quality standards.
Advantages of New OEM Parts
The main argument for the new OEM parts is that they are approved by the original car manufacture. Therefore, they do not affect the insurance of the car or the warranty placed on the car. Furthermore, if you can get parts made by the original car manufacturing plant, then you can be sure that the auto parts will fit properly and will be compatible with other car parts. Since they are new and quality, they last longer and give your car better functionality. Read the rest of this entry »
